The Truth Behind the Truth
A few weeks ago I read an interview with Rob Bell by Christianity Today in an article entitled Tying the Clouds Together. He shares some of the questions he asks when approaching the scriptures. One of the questions he asks is “What’s the thing behind the thing?” and “What’s the truth behind the truth?” I think those are great questions to be asking. About that same time I had been trying to figure out how to flesh out a new message series on a prison letter called Philippians. I had been asking what makes it possible for Paul to be full of joy while writing this heartfelt letter from a jail cell? It seemed to hit me that behind this letter, behind his joy, behind his confidence in people and his faith is something we often miss. What I have come to believe is behind Paul’s confidence and joy is…is his unswerving belief in resurrection!
So, we will be taking a journey together through this prison letter by Paul to the Philippians and discovering resurrection power. This first Sunday we will look at Paul’s words: grace and peace.
I would challenge you to read through this short letter. Let me know what discoveries you make. Leave a comment, ask questions, share an insight, respond to the messages you hear. Let’s go on this journey together.
